Introduction

The Land Information Search (LIS) is a map based tool that allows you to search for data relating to an area of land or a feature that you have identified. Run a search in order to highlight the presence of a range of environmental features and designations such as Scheduled Monuments, Sites of Special Scientific Interest and Native Woodland that may fall within your area of interest and within a 500m buffer zone.
Applicants for Scotland Rural Development Programme (SRDP) grants (e.g. AECS and FGS) and/or felling licences must take this information into account when applying for grants or licences. A copy of the Land Information Search map will not be accepted with applications for SRDP grants or felling licences.
This tool is of use to agricultural, forestry and moorland management stakeholders (e.g. landowners, agents working on behalf of land owners, public sector or industry representatives searching for information required for an Environmental Impact Assessment, Scottish Government (and other) grant funding, and also interested members of the general public.

Draw your area of interest

1. Please Note! The buttons allowing you to draw only become available once you have zoomed the map into a scale of 1:64,000 or higher (the scale is found at the bottom right hand side of the map).
2. Draw a point, line or area on the map to represent the specific area you are interested in searching. A 500m buffer will automatically be created around your drawn shape. When drawing a polygon, shading will show the area that will be enclosed as the sides are drawn. The polygon can be closed automatically by double clicking at the end of the penultimate line.
3. You can add more points, lines or areas to the map at any point if required (Please note: you cannot draw a mix of points, lines and areas).
4. You can zoom in and out on the map whilst drawing your shape(s).
5. To edit a point, double click and drag it to its new position.
6. To edit an area or line, double click on it and drag the boundary points to their new position. You can delete the grey points by right clicking with your mouse.
7. Clicking outside of the point, line or area confirms any edits that you have made.
8. To delete a whole feature, hold down the ‘Control’ key and click inside the shape.
9. When you are happy with the search area or areas you have defined, click the 'Run Search' button.
10. To view the search results on the map, you can select the layers one at a time.
11. To see the full report click on ‘Show Full Report’. You can print and save it to PDF.
12. You can also save a search area(s) that you have drawn by selecting ‘Name and Save Search Area’ within the full report. This feature enables you to name your search area(s) and reload previous searches should you need to do so.
13. To reload a previous search area, click on the ‘Saved Search Areas’ tab – individual searches are defined by a coloured banding and a date and time and name.
14. You can view each layers map key by clicking on the ‘Legend’ tab.
